Oh! For The Love of… BOYS!

Oh! For the LOVE of boys! If you read the previous two posts, then you already know that I am the mom of two boys and thankful for it!  Not two accidental, by chance, sons by mistake, but two pre-destined blessings – my blessings. (Of course, my husband had something to do with it, I guess; I do give him much more ownership credit when they screw up!)

I was chosen to be the mom of these two young men by God himself and God does it right the first time! It’s not like there was some slip up and He really meant for me to raise girls. Nope. He planned it.

Now, I have to say, in the beginning, that wasn’t my plan.  As a matter of fact, from the time I was young (I have been 29 and holding for decades now), I planned my life to include ruffled bloomers and little black patten leather shoes.  I bought a frilly ruffled dress and all the trimmings in anticipation of my very first niece being born… and I ended up giving it away 20 years later after my siblings all produced boys! And, since the pink isle at Toys R Us was one none of us ever got to frequent, I just knew that I would be the one to open the door to cute, girly stuff by having girls! Well, the problem with that plan was that it apparently wasn’t God’s plan!

The truth is, that while God never seems to do things the way we think He will, or when we think it should be done, He does know best. He knew the best for me. He knew that the joy my boys would bring would far outweigh the challenges. He knew that I would be a better mom to boys than to girls. He also knew that He would be right there with me walking me through everything I didn’t know about raising my angels; He even knew all things I didn’t really want to know!  And, the reality is that because HE KNOWS, I’m the big winner!

From dirty, little hands I’ve gotten daisies squeezed limp and proudly delivered because they “lub their mum.” I have gotten hugs for fixing the invisible scratches with cartoon bandaids, a “thanks mom” for helping pick out the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for a first girlfriend; a Godiva chocolate bar to say “sorry mom for smarting off”; and even the occasional “I appreciate it, Mom.”  OF course the one that sums it up and gets me every time is, simply, “I Love You” from my boys.  It’s those three little words that, well, mean EVERYTHING.

So, it is not by our children buying us gifts, getting good grades, or through their great life accomplishments, that we moms get our reward.  But, it’s rather within their heartfelt words of love that we find our greatest joy and memories. Yes! Oh! for the LOVE of these boys! For this mom, having boys has surely been a God thing… shenanigans and all!

Blessed to be a blessing,

Donna
